From Karanja oil to a sustainable future
A family business built on trust and community
In 1974, Late Shri Ranjitbhai Shah founded Ranjit Oil Mills, beginning our journey with the manufacturing of Karanja (Pongamia) oil in Maharashtra. What started as a single mill grew, over the decades, into a business woven into the everyday life of the local oilseed economy, an employer, a buyer of farmers' produce, and a steady presence in the community it served.
For more than five decades, the mill has been more than a manufacturing business. It has been a source of employment and livelihood for the workers, suppliers, farmers and families connected to it. The relationships built over generations, often spanning fathers and sons on both sides of the business, remain an important part of our identity today.
As the world's energy needs evolved and the conversation around renewable fuels grew louder, we began looking at our founding oilseed with fresh eyes. Pongamia, long valued for its resilience and non-edible oil, started to look less like a legacy product and more like a genuine opportunity: a homegrown feedstock for Sustainable Aviation Fuel and other low-carbon fuel applications.
Today, Ranjit Oil Mills India Pvt. Ltd. carries forward the foundation established in 1974, combining decades of oilseed experience with a new vision for renewable energy, traceable sourcing and long-term partnerships across India and beyond.

A mill is founded
Late Shri Ranjitbhai Shah establishes Ranjit Oil Mills to manufacture Karanja (Pongamia) oil, laying the foundation for a business built on regional oilseed expertise and close relationships with local farmers and suppliers.
Decades of steady operation
Across the following decades, the mill grows into a dependable part of the local oilseed economy, providing employment and livelihood to workers, suppliers and farming families while quietly building deep, generational relationships.
Recognising a renewable opportunity
As global attention turns to Sustainable Aviation Fuel and lower-carbon fuel pathways, we begin exploring Pongamia's wider potential as a renewable feedstock, alongside the largely untapped opportunity in Used Cooking Oil recovery.

At Ranjit Oil Mills India Pvt. Ltd., we see Pongamia as more than an oilseed, we see an opportunity to create a sustainable, homegrown feedstock for the future of energy.
India has large areas of marginal and underutilised land that can potentially support Pongamia cultivation, creating opportunities for farmers, landowners and local communities while developing a renewable resource for the growing SAF industry.
Alongside Pongamia, we see a significant opportunity in Used Cooking Oil. India generates large volumes of UCO, and responsible collection and traceability can turn a difficult waste stream into a valuable renewable feedstock.
Our approach is deliberately long-term. We are building our Pongamia programme through genuine partnerships with farmers and landowners, while developing a traceable and responsible UCO supply network from the beginning.
Our ambition is to help build the infrastructure, partnerships and supply chains that can position India as a reliable global supplier of sustainable feedstocks for the aviation industry's energy transition.
